These are the staff who work in Class 5

Mrs R Fairs - Class Teacher

    Mr A Grave - LSA

We enjoyed learning about Aztec warriors this week and in groups created our own. They were either Aztec Jaguar warriors or Aztec Eagle warriors who were dressed to scare the opponent. They also thought about the weapons they would use too.

    Spring Walk

We went out for our third seasonal walk into the local area. The weather was dry and overcast but not too cold. We walked through the woods, the maize fields and the wheat field behind the school, down the avenue of mistletoe. Whilst out, we looked for seasonal changes since the Winter walk, including: blossom growth, buds, nests, returning birds and leaf growth. We then took inspiration from the artist Andy Goldsworthy and made some land art in the woods. We used items that we had collected on the way.

    Chatham Dockyard Trip

We enjoyed a great day at the Chatham Dockyard, where we explored the submarine, the HMS Cavalier and HMS Gannet, we made rope and built our own rockets and fired them from a rocket launcher.

    Greek Vases

We designed and then made some Greek vases from clay. We used one of two techniques to make our vases; either a pinch pot or a coiled pot, making sure there were no gaps and it was all smoothed down. Once dry we painted them orange and then added our designs in black - these were either from Greek daily life, Olympics, Greek myths or Greek Gods for inspiration.

Music Day - Andrew Lloyd Webber

    Music Day

The theme for our day was Andrew Lloyd Webber Musicals which was great fun to explore. We researched about the man himself and created some biographies about him, we then listened to some of his most famous songs and drew what the songs reminded us of. We used the glockenspiels to play the beginning of the Phantom of the Opera and created some oil pastel guitar art inspired by School of Rock.

    Ancient Greek Olympic Champions

    Ancient Greek Olympics

We had great time taking part in our own version of the ancient Greek Olympics - although not quite in the warm, sunny weather they would have had in Greece! We all took part in 5 events: long jump, shot putt, long distance (twice around the field), javelin and sprint. Girls were only competing against girls and boys against boys. The winning boy and girl from each event were awarded a laurel wreath crown and offered the best seats in the classroom!

    Pandora's Box Homework

Amazing Pandora's Box creations for homework - all so detailed and unique. I have been very impressed with all your efforts- well done!

    Autumn Walk

We went out for our first seasonal walk into the local area. It was unseasonably warm and sunny and we enjoyed walking through the woods, the maize fields, avenue of trees and the wheat field behind the school. Whilst out, we looked at the changes to the leaf colours, nuts and seeds, crop growth and land use. We drew some landscape sketches whilst on our walk.

    Greek Temple Models

We had a great afternoon learning all about Greek architecture and the importance of temples to the ancient Greeks. We learnt that they started to make them from wood before moving on to stone. They used different types of columns Doric, Ionic or Corinthian and that they had a statue of the god or goddess that they were in honour of inside them. The temples would normally be situated on a hill - an acropolis. We then built our own from Lego, clay or paper.

    Bell Ringing

We all had a wonderful time at the church learning how to bell ring. Everyone had a chance to go up the bell tower and learn the beginnings of bell ringing alongside a hand chimes session. It was a big hit and hopefully we will get another chance to have a go.

    Ancient Greek Names

    Pandora's Box Drama

After learning about the Greek myth - Pandora's Box, we were split into groups to rehearse and then perform a section of it.

    Mythical Creatures Drawings

We created our own mythical beasts which could feature in our own Greek myths. We focused on using pencil to create light and shade, tone and texture through stippling, cross hatching and shading. Detail was key and so we focused on whether they had feathers, scales, fur or hair.

    Mythical Creature Descriptive Writing

Here is some of our wonderful character descriptions from our English lessons. We had to create a Greek mythical creature and describe what is looked like, it's personality and traits, where it lived and other fascinating facts. The children had a focus on using ambitious vocabulary, similes and varied sentence openers.

    T1 PE - Hockey

In our hockey lessons so far, we have learnt how to hold the stick, how to dribble with the ball and some team game tactics.
