Outdoor Learning - Making Water Worlds

Watercolour paintings of the River Thames and Westminster in the style of Claude Monet

We explored impressionist art last week by studying a range of paintings by Claude Monet of the River Thames and Westminster. Firstly, we drew a pencil outline of the Houses of Parliament and then chose four colours only to paint our landscape to great effect.

Snow Day Message

Hello Class 5! I hope that you have been out enjoying your time in the snow and building some very impressive snowmen! Make sure to take photos of you having fun and then we can all enjoy them when we are back at school. In the mean time, please remember that the Art homework will be due in when we get back to school so maybe yours will now be snow inspired. You can also use any spare time to: complete homework due in on Monday; learn the Maths facts from our termly rapid recall cards; practise your spellings; play times table games on the 'Hit the Button'; write a short story for the Abbey School competition (details on the last newsletter).

As we are due to do our next outdoor learning session with Mrs Maw and Mrs Caverly-Young on Tuesday 6th March (pm) it would be good if you could design your own water worlds (which you will be making on that afternoon) using bits of plastic (bottles, trays and boxes) that would be very helpful. This can be done on the Purple Mash website and saved in the Class 5 folder so that I will be able to look at them whilst we are off school.

Thank you everyone,

Hopefully see you soon! no

Mrs Fairs

We have had a great time designing and making our own Foxes Fairground. There are so many exciting rides to explore from dodgems to chair-o-planes, a ferris wheel, ghost train, roller coasters and a whole host of other thrill seeking rides.

Outdoor Learning with Mrs Maw & Mrs Caverly-Young

We had a wonderful afternoon in the woods making our own fairground rides using just natural materials. I was very impressed with the imagination and creative thought going on. The class all worked collaboratively to make ferris wheels, roller coasters, helter skelters and dodgems.

After writing our poems and rehearsing, the time had come for an epic poetry battle. We all performed our poems brilliantly and Hannah and Freya were deserved winners in the end!!smiley
